Merrylands Bulk Billed Varicose Vein Removal

5 Reasons to get Varicose veins removed!

  1. Aesthetics
Varicose veins can look quite disfiguring, and they only get worse as time goes by. It’s a sad truth, but by leaving varicose veins unattended, the swollen vein gets worse and is harder to repair. Your options for solving varicose veins are sclerotherapy or surgery. Sclerotherapy is relatively non-invasive and can be just as effective compared to surgery in the majority of circumstances. If you are concerned about your varicose veins, read below on our process (bulk billed) on how to get rid of them!
  2. Constant pain, throbbing, and tenderness in the legs
This needs no explaining. Once it gets to this stage, it is quite debilitating. It takes more energy for your body to circulate the same amount of blood. There is of course the risks of blood clots and these can lead to dire consequences such as strokes and heart attacks. Prevent is better than cure. If you think you have varicose veins, or are concerned about long-standing veins, please make a consult with our surgeon, who will assess and let you know the best course of action. We have bulk-billed these consults for your benefit.
  3. Skin sores and ulcers
Skin sores and ulcers occur as certain parts of the body take more pressure and have repeated friction. These areas are usually when the varicose veins have started to bulge and they take more pressure than other areas. This ulceration and soreness brings about more swelling and makes the varicose vein bulge more.
  4. Blood clots
As the vein gets rubbed against, it is quite fragile. Bleeding can occur internally as blood clots and can cause bruising or floating blood clots in the body.
  5. Bleeding from the veins
As mentioned previously, veins are fragile. Veins are usually wrapped inside the body and well protected. When they come to the surface, any small trauma can cause the vein to pop and this can be quite dangerous. Bleeding out is rare, but it can be quite traumatic to deal with. It is best to dissolve these veins before that cause havoc in your life. If you would like to get more information on varicose vein removal, please discuss with our bulked billed surgeon. The process is listed below.

What is really going on in a varicose vein?

Come to our Merrylands Clinic for surgical varicose vein removal. Varicose veins are enlarged blood vessels that form beneath the skin surface. The one-way valves in the veins that would normally channel the blood back to the heart do not function properly, causing blood to ‘pool’ in the veins. These veins can become large, painful & unattractive and can cause symptoms such as tired, heavy, aching, burning, itching or cramping legs.

Depending on the severity of your varicose veins they may be suitable for injection therapy. This procedure can be done in my rooms. No preparation is required. We will advise you on your first consultation whether your veins are suitable. If your veins are suitable you will need to purchase a pair of gradient compression stockings before the procedure being carried out. There are several brands available (Venosan, Jobst etc) and most large chemist shops carry a range.

Our varicose vein removals are performed by our talented surgical consultant, Doctor Paramalingam Lingathas.

Treatment

A tiny needle is used to inject a sclerosing solution directly into the unwanted vein. The solution acts on the inner lining of the vein, causing it to shrink so that no more blood can flow through the unwanted vein. Within weeks, the unused vein is absorbed by the body & eventually becomes barely noticeable or invisible. Following injection the leg is placed in a gradient compression stocking which helps the lining of the collapsed vein stick together. As these stockings are quite hot to wear most patients have their treatments in the cooler months of the year. Patients are advised to walk following the procedure, which forces the blood to flow through other healthy blood vessels nearby. A vein may need to be injected more than once, depending on its size. In any one treatment session, a number of veins can be injected. Several sessions may be needed for any vein region, depending on the type and number of veins being treated.

Surgical Vasectomy In Merrylands

9 reasons to get a vasectomy over other contraceptions!

Benefits of a Vasectomy for Men:

  • Vasectomies are more effective.
    • Vasectomies are more effective than other contraceptive methods (99% effective!)
  • No need for general anesthesia.
    • A vasectomy does not require going under general anesthesia. The procedure instead, is most commonly done with simple local anesthesia. Because a vasectomy does not require anesthesia, the entire process takes Dr Lingathas only about 15 minutes to complete. There is NO general anaesthesia costs and not in hospital stay costs which can get quite pricey.
  • Lower cost than all other forms of birth control.
    • The average cost of a vasectomy is thousands of dollars cheaper than the methods of sterilization for women. In comparison, a vasectomy costs as little as under $990 at Woodville Rd Medical and Dental centre.
  • It is a one-time cost.
    • It is also worth noting that the cost of a vasectomy is just a one-time expense. With other forms of birth control, such as the pill or condoms, the price may be initially cheaper but obviously accrues with each purchase, making years of using condoms or oral contraceptives more expensive in the long run.
  • The procedure is often covered by insurance.
    • A vasectomy is covered by most insurance providers, meaning that the procedure will cost significantly less once you have met your deductible.
    • It is a fast procedure and recovery.
      • For recovery, only 48 hours or less are required away from work.
    • The procedure is done in the doctor’s office rather than an operating room.
      • A contributing factor to the shorter procedure time and lower cost for vasectomies is the fact that the procedure can often be done in the office rather than an operating room. This signifies the simplicity of the procedure, as well as helps many feel more comfortable.
    • No scalpel vasectomies are available.
      • To even further simplify and improve recovery time, doctors have discovered a no-scalpel version of the vasectomy. This option is less invasive and has even fewer risks associated with it.

Benefits of a Vasectomy for Women:

  • Stopping hormonal birth control.
    • Every woman is different in how they react to various types of birth control, but a common side effect for many is exaggerated mood changes due to hormones. A woman is better able to regulate her mood and feel like herself when those additional hormones are not a factor. It also allows women to no longer worry about trying to remember to take a daily pill.
  • Avoiding more invasive tubal ligation.
    • As previously discussed, the procedure, recovery time, and risk factors are all much greater for tubal ligation in comparison to a vasectomy. Tubal ligation requires a visit to the hospital, an hour or longer procedure in the operating room under general anesthesia, and a potential overnight stay for monitoring. The pain throughout the four to seven-day recovery may be more significant, and although the risk is still relatively low, there is no risk to vital organs with a vasectomy.
  • Prevent failure of female sterilization, which may result in ectopic pregnancy.
    • The risks associated with pregnancy in women who have undergone tubal ligation include an uncommon occurrence of an ectopic pregnancy which may present a severe health risk to the women and an unsuccessful, painful pregnancy.

The decision to get a vasectomy as a permanent form of birth control is of course a very personal one. The best option for each person is dependent on the individual’s situation and consultation with a doctor; however, there are many benefits as detailed above to be considered for getting a vasectomy.

If you would like to learn more about the process, recovery time, benefits, and more feel free to come in for a Bulk-Billed Consult (No out-of-pocket expenses with a medicare card)!

What to expect!

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that involves cutting the supply of sperm. It is a birth control method that is performed on a male. During this procedure, the sperm tubes are severed and the sperm can no longer make their way into the semen. Even though ejaculation will still occur during sex, there is no sperm to fertilize the female’s egg, and no pregnancy can result from the sex if no sperm is present.

Surgical Circumcision In Merrylands

The most common and oldest surgical procedure is circumcision. New-born males come to the earth with a piece of skin covering the penis’ head, known as the foreskin. Circumcision is then performed to remove this piece of skin. Various justifications exist for this practice, including cultural, religious, medical, and social purposes.

The time for performing circumcision varies as healthy infants can undergo the procedure 2 to 3 days after birth. Some others perform circumcision when they become much older. That is, as grown-up children or as adults.

What is circumcision?

Ear Vacuuming Services In Merrylands

Circumcision is the surgical procedure through which the foreskin of the penis is removed. Cutting off this shroud of skin results in the exposure of the penis. Circumcision is thus believed to enable males to keep the area around the penis clean.

A larger percentage of circumcision is performed for newborns shortly after birth. Many have it later in life, while some never undergo the procedure. Most importantly, clinics like ours only offer circumcision for people above the age of 8.

What is circumcision? The Process of Surgical Circumcision

Initial consult

Before circumcision, consulting one of our Merryland GPs is necessary before seeing our surgeon, Doctor Paramalingam Lingathas. Our doctors will take the time to give a clear explanation of the benefits and risks of circumcision.

In some cases, you might have to wait for some time, before undergoing the circumcision. Such situations might be in cases of a premature baby, or a baby with a family history of bleeding problems, or a baby born with any problem relating to genital organ disorders. During this waiting period, written consent is required. Also, it is important to mention that the initial consult and the surgery can be done within a week.

Surgical Circumcision

Circumcision for newborns, older children, and adults follows the same procedure. For children, the child will be awake during the procedure and will be placed on their back with their legs and arms in a restrained position.

Then, an antiseptic will be used to clean up the penis, and a local anesthetic agent applied or injected into its base. A plastic ring will be attached to the penis head, after which the foreskin will be removed. After a while, the ring will fall off, and an ointment will be applied to the penis before it is wrapped in gauze. It takes about 10 minutes for a baby, while for an adult, it might take up to 30 minutes. Mobility is not affected as the patient can walk about after the surgery.

Recovery

Following surgery, some discomfort occurs normally. For adults, you will be able to walk out of the clinic right away, though you will be in recovery for 3-4 days.  Urination will be normal, with no discomfort.

Kids Dental Braces in Merrylands

If you are looking for a dental expert in Kid’s Dental Braces in Merrylands, look no further! Many children can be quite-self conscious about requiring braces, however at our Merrylands Dental Clinic, we know know that the long-term benefits are well worth the discomfort. Children deserve a perfect smile allowing them to be carefree and full of life.

Crooked teeth can result in significant impacts on a child’s dental hygiene, breathing, and sleep habits. While our dentists will always encourage any preventative methods while they are still an option, braces can also in turn prevent the need for more serious treatments down the line. Having untreated crooked teeth is quite unfortunate, as it leads to many other issues. One of the main issues is psychological low self-esteem, which impacts a child throughout their life. When a child has crooked teeth, they are less likely to smile and more likely to be awkward and hesitant about social interactions. This has long-standing impacts and negatively changes the way a child grows up.

If you are a parent that is concerned about their child developing a straight and healthy smile come and visit the Woodville Road Medical and Dental Clinic. We want all children to have beautiful vibrant smiles that bring a smile to everyone who sees it. Our clinic uses white brackets and white archwires to hide the braces, making them virtually invisible when required. Say goodbye to braces that stand out and create an eyesore. Our new SmileFast technology makes a slim profile to the braces keeping them hidden.

Dr Youstina is a leading expert when it comes to Kid’s Dental Braces in Merrylands and is able to take care of your child from start to finish, regardless of what kind of issue your child has! COSTS OF KID’S DENTAL BRACES IN MERRYLANDS

Kid’s Dental Braces in Merrylands typically costs from $6500- $16000, depending on which dentist you go to. For our community, especially for kids, we want everyone to be able to smile and enjoy life. As such our experienced dentists and experts have priced our treatments at the lower end of this scale, and are happy to price match other clinics to provide a competitive price. Our treatment times range from 6 months to 1 year, but this varies from patient to patient.

We understand Price can be a large determinant when choosing where to do the treatment. We aim to assist with this issue, by providing payment plans (ZipPay), to reduce the burden of braces. Just to make things more convenient our Dentists are available till 8 PM from Monday-Friday, so you don’t have to skip work!

WHEN SHOULD MY KID’S GET DENTAL BRACES?

For Kid’s Dental Braces in Merrylands, treatments typically start with an initial consultation. We determine if your child needs braces, and what age they should start. Some children have a few years to go whereas other kids are late to start treatment. Typically children who need braces usually start at about 9-12 years of age, which is about the pubertal spurt. Keep in mind, it is better to have the initial consultation before 8 years of age, in order to allow the dentist to start planing a child’s braces journey. Early planning may even reduce the costs of the overall treatment and also reduce the treatment times. If you are unsure if your child is needing braces, or too young/old for braces, come in for a consultation with our Dentists, who will be able to give insight into when the best time to start with braces is.

HOW DO I GET THE PROCESS STARTED FOR KID’S DENTAL BRACES IN MERRYLANDS?

When seeing Kid’s for Dental Braces, we typically like to make the first appointment relaxing and easy-going. We usually ask the parents what their main concerns are, and if the child also has the same concerns. We always take photos and do a full exam to make sure your child does not have any decay going on, before proceeding to plan for the braces. Typically if a child needs more time before determining if they need braces, then we will usually set this up and ensure that they are called back at the appropriate time. HOW LONG DO KID’S DENTAL BRACES KEEP TEETH STRAIGHT FOR?

Kid’s Dental Braces can and should keep teeth straight so long as a child wears a retainer. At Woodville Rd Medical and Dental, we use permanent retainers to ensure your teeth NEVER go crooked again. These retainers help to hold teeth in position and are not able to be seen. We know our work is of the highest quality which is why we give a guarantee on the work we do! We don’t like to take shortcuts, which is why we do not use a temporary retainer (the plastic tray that goes in and out of your mouth). Not only are temporary retainers costly, but they are also largely ineffective. We pride ourselves on doing long-lasting permanent retainers, which can keep teeth perfectly straight for up 40-50 years.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery in Merrylands

A man having breasts or man boobs is relatively abnormal but not uncommon and many afflicted individuals will choose to seek out male breast reduction surgery.

Man boobs can be hereditary, or due to a misuse of medications, among a number of other potential causes. They are the reason why many young men develop body consciousness or self esteem issues. A simple male breast reduction is an often uncomplicated process that can give you a flat and firm chest. The operation reduces excess fat and glandular tissues in a male’s chest.

As of 2019, according to a report, there was a 19% increase in patients that underwent male breast reduction.

However, before the effect of a problem can be removed, the cause must be known and examined carefully. Please book an appointment with one of our GP’s for a pre-surgery consultation.

What causes man boobs?

Enlarged male boobs are otherwise known as gynecomastia. It occurs as a result of proliferated glandular tissue in men. Men are not born to have protruded breasts like women. Gynecomastia is caused by increased male estrogen production and decreased testosterone levels during puberty.

Alternatively, the presence of excess fat in a man’s chest is another cause of man boobs.

With both cases, a simple male breast reduction surgery can alleviate men of this affliction.

What Is Involved In The Male Breast Reduction Surgery?

There are two methods for a Man Boob Reduction Surgery:

  1. The Use of Liposuction

Treating gynecomastia with the use of liposuction involves the use of local anesthesia with sedation. This surgery is executed with a small incision on the sides of the chest or within the armpit. Through this, the surgeon removes excess fat and glandular tissues from the chest, and at the same time, shapes the chest to that which best fits.

Patients are given contraction garments to reduce swelling and aid quick healing. Specific instructions will be given to every patient by the surgeon to aid with for the rapid recovery of the tissues.

  1. Treating Gynecomastia Using Tissue Incision

Cases with significant sagging skin around the breast require a treatment other than liposuction. These patients are offered tissue incision.

This involves the removal of glandular tissues. Incisions are made around the creases of the chest for the removal of excess fat.

Male breast reduction surgery through tissue incision involves the use of general anesthesia. For recovery, patients are given constriction garments to reduce swelling and aid quick tissue healing.

It is vitfor patients to first see a GP for advice and to see if surgery is the best choice for you. After the surgery, follow all instructions given by the surgeon.

Common Reasons to see your Merrylands ENT Doctor

Allergies and Hayfever:

An allergy is the response of the human immune system to external substances, or allergens. They are contacted by touching, inhaling, eating, or injecting them into our bodies.

While Allergies are of two forms, namely indoor and outdoor allergies, they also occur either around the year or in specific seasons. There are various types of allergies. Grass and weed pollen, pets, dust mites, cockroaches, and mold spores are all common allergy triggers. Hayfever, an allergy triggered majorly by pollen, is found among 10-30% of the world’s population.

Symptoms of Allergies

  • Sneezing
  • A runny or blocked nose
  • Nasal pain
  • Itching of the ear, nose, and throat
  • Postnatal drips
  • Headache

Prevention and Treatment

In general, allergies do not have a cure but could be managed. Further, the best prevention of allergies is avoiding allergens or allergy triggers. Various treatments are available, and seeing a GP or ENT doctor is recommended.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is also a common ENT issue that occurs due to the inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Hence, sinusitis affects effective breathing and also makes the nose stuffy. Most times, sinusitis could either be chronic or acute. While acute sinusitis occurs for a short while (1-4 weeks) and is generally associated with cold, chronic occurs for a longer time, for instance, three months and above. Its causes include allergies, viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

Symptoms

  • Nasal inflammation
  • Postnasal drainage
  • Nasal congestion
  • Insensitivity to smell and taste
  • Fatigue
  • Pains
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Cough amidst many others.

Treatment and Preventive Measures:

Preventive measures include avoiding smoking, managing or avoiding allergens, maintaining proper hygiene, staying in a moist environment, and keeping a distance from individuals with respiratory challenges.

Medications are available, such as nasal irrigation using saline nasal sprays. Resting adequately, inhaling steam and using decongestant tablets are also options, and in extreme cases you may require surgery. See a GP or specialist to recommend the treatment most suitable to your condition.

Snoring:

Approximately 45% of adults snore, and of these, about 25% will do this often. Snoring can become disturbing to partners or other people sleeping close to a snorer. These sounds are the result of a blockage of air passage through the nose or mouth. A sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea is often connected to snoring most times. Apart from blockage of the nose and throat, snoring could also result from the use of drugs and alcohol, sleeping on your back, lack of adequate sleeping time, or being overweight.

Remedies and treatments

  • Have a sleeping schedule and stick to it
  • Always sleep sideways
  • Elevate the head of your bed a bit
  • Open your airways with decongestants(with doctor permission)
  • Change lifestyle
  • Wearing plastic in your mouth to keep your airway open

Nosebleeds

A nosebleed is the blood loss from tissues found inside the nose. Though the sight of this blood loss might be frightening, however, this is often a minor issue. There are instances where it can be a chronic issue that requires a doctor or ENT specialist. Anterior and posterior nosebleed are the common forms of nosebleed. While the anterior type is common among children and starts from the front of the nose, the other is common among adults and begins deep inside the nose. Its causes range from nose picking, allergic reaction, repeated sneezing, cold air, irritation of chemicals, fixed external item in the nose, cold air, infection in the upper part of the respiratory system, nose injury, and many others.

Prevention and Treatments

  • Avoid nose-picking
  • Blow your nose gently
  • Protect your nose during harmful activities
  • Follow nasal decongestants instructions.

Men’s Sexual Health is often a delicate process and many men at some point in their lives will experience problems such Erectile Dysfunction or Ejaculation Dysfunction.  The ongoing inability to achieve sexual satisfaction can often result in significant problems in a relationship or cause a significant amount of emotional stress.

Erectile Dysfunction (Impotence) and Ejaculation Dysfunction, are common problems with a large effect on men’s sexual health and are significant impediments to achieving sexual satisfaction. Ejaculation and erection problems can occur from time to time without any underlying problems. However if these problems are consistent, we highly recommend seeing your Merrylands doctor or GP. Treatments are available, and in some instances, these problems could be a sign of heart disease, or caused by some underlying health condition in urgent need of attention.

Types of veneers

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are ceramic veneers that have excellent colour and look. However, the issue is they require the tooth to be cut, are expensive and usually take 2 appointments.

Porcelain veneers are prone to chipping and cracking and are quite delicate. Although they look great, it isn’t the usual choice we would recommend.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers look amazing and the technology that goes into them is very advanced. They are significantly cheaper, are less prone to chipping/ fracturing but also take 2 appointments.

Composite veneers may or may not require some tooth shaving, depending on the case. Composite veneers are very easy to fix if they chip and as a long term strategy is quite optimal.

Unlike many dentists, this process occurs entirely in-house, so you can get your information faster than ever!

Once your digital Invisalign treatment plan is approved, the digital recreation of your smile is sent to a manufacturer to print a set of custom aligners.

Invisalign vs Braces

Braces and Invisalign are both effective orthodontic treatments that align your teeth and improve your smile.

Traditional braces work by using a metal wire with a metal bracket adhered to each individual tooth. A wire is then connected that your dentist will keep tightening over time with the use of small rubber bands, until your teeth reach the desired position.

In contrast, Invisalign straightens your teeth with without the use of any “permanent” fixture. The treatment uses a series of clear, customized aligners that are easily adjustable as well as removable during its application. The effectiveness of Invisalign is dependent the users ability to maintain the usage of aligners, and unlike tradition braces, leave no stains on the teeth when the treatment is removed

Dental Extraction Care (with Arabic instructions)

After your dental extraction, it’s important to take care and let a blood clot to form, to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. Bite on a gauze pad (place over each surgical site) changing it for 30-60 minutes until the bleeding stops completely. Light oozing is normal throughout the day of surgery and the following day. When the surgical site(s) are not visually/actively bleeding, remove the gauze and discontinue its use. You may eat and drink between gauze changes.

If you are experiencing heavy bleeding at any time after your surgery (consistent with a bad nosebleed) call our office as soon as possible. If after 48 hours you have any numbness of the lip, teeth or chin (this is usually temporary) please call our office if it persists after 48 hours.

Apply ice packs to the outside of your face for a minimum of 24 hours after your surgery.

Pain can peak after 48-72 hours. If after 72 hours you are still experiencing muscle soreness apply heat (towel soaked in hot water, warmed gel pack or heating pad wrapped in a towel). Practice opening and closing. It is important to keep your jaw muscles moving. Continue heat as long as you have swelling and/or muscle soreness. It is not uncommon to develop bruising on the face after oral surgery.

Do not vigorously rinse or spit for 24 hours.

Brushing is important for the healing process. Brush gently around the surgical sites as bleeding and tenderness are common the night of your surgery. After 24 hours, please gently swish with warm salt water, do this after meals and before bedtime. You may resume normal oral hygiene (brushing & flossing) 24 hours after surgery. You can drink water, just be very gentle and use the other side.

Small bone chips are normal to come out after extractions and it is the body’s normal way of repairing. The dentist will always check if any tooth is remaining and will let you know if there are any issues.

Do not drink through a straw, drink alcohol or smoke for 1 week.

These actions are the main cause(s) of dry socket. A dry socket is formed when the blood clot is dislodged prematurely from the socket causing pain to your neck, head and/or ear(s). This will usually occur 3-5 days after your surgery. If you experience these symptoms, you will need to schedule an appointment with our office.

A soft diet is recommended for at least one week (anything that you can cut with a fork).

The day of the surgery foods such as yogurt, pudding, smoothies, shakes (not using a straw), ice cream and mashed potatoes are recommended. You may resume a normal diet when it’s comfortable for you

Take all medications as prescribed.

If you have any side effects from taking any medications, discontinue use and call our office immediately. Please refer to the Medications List you received from our office to review instructions.

Please avoid any physical activity (such as school sports) including lifting and bending for at least 3-5 days.

Ease back into exercise when ready. Throbbing at the surgical site is normal and will subside, but take it slow.

If sutures were used, they should dissolve in 5-7 days. We will advise if you need to be seen for suture removal if dissolvable sutures were not used. If no post-op appointment was scheduled, but you have concerns, we are here to help. Contact us today with any questions you may have about our dental extraction care guide.
