Merrylands Bulk Billed Varicose Vein Removal

5 Reasons to get Varicose veins removed!

  1. Aesthetics
Varicose veins can look quite disfiguring, and they only get worse as time goes by. It’s a sad truth, but by leaving varicose veins unattended, the swollen vein gets worse and is harder to repair. Your options for solving varicose veins are sclerotherapy or surgery. Sclerotherapy is relatively non-invasive and can be just as effective compared to surgery in the majority of circumstances. If you are concerned about your varicose veins, read below on our process (bulk billed) on how to get rid of them!
  2. Constant pain, throbbing, and tenderness in the legs
This needs no explaining. Once it gets to this stage, it is quite debilitating. It takes more energy for your body to circulate the same amount of blood. There is of course the risks of blood clots and these can lead to dire consequences such as strokes and heart attacks. Prevent is better than cure. If you think you have varicose veins, or are concerned about long-standing veins, please make a consult with our surgeon, who will assess and let you know the best course of action. We have bulk-billed these consults for your benefit.
  3. Skin sores and ulcers
Skin sores and ulcers occur as certain parts of the body take more pressure and have repeated friction. These areas are usually when the varicose veins have started to bulge and they take more pressure than other areas. This ulceration and soreness brings about more swelling and makes the varicose vein bulge more.
  4. Blood clots
As the vein gets rubbed against, it is quite fragile. Bleeding can occur internally as blood clots and can cause bruising or floating blood clots in the body.
  5. Bleeding from the veins
As mentioned previously, veins are fragile. Veins are usually wrapped inside the body and well protected. When they come to the surface, any small trauma can cause the vein to pop and this can be quite dangerous. Bleeding out is rare, but it can be quite traumatic to deal with. It is best to dissolve these veins before that cause havoc in your life. If you would like to get more information on varicose vein removal, please discuss with our bulked billed surgeon. The process is listed below.

What is really going on in a varicose vein?

Come to our Merrylands Clinic for surgical varicose vein removal. Varicose veins are enlarged blood vessels that form beneath the skin surface. The one-way valves in the veins that would normally channel the blood back to the heart do not function properly, causing blood to ‘pool’ in the veins. These veins can become large, painful & unattractive and can cause symptoms such as tired, heavy, aching, burning, itching or cramping legs.

Depending on the severity of your varicose veins they may be suitable for injection therapy. This procedure can be done in my rooms. No preparation is required. We will advise you on your first consultation whether your veins are suitable. If your veins are suitable you will need to purchase a pair of gradient compression stockings before the procedure being carried out. There are several brands available (Venosan, Jobst etc) and most large chemist shops carry a range.

Our varicose vein removals are performed by our talented surgical consultant, Doctor Paramalingam Lingathas.

Treatment

A tiny needle is used to inject a sclerosing solution directly into the unwanted vein. The solution acts on the inner lining of the vein, causing it to shrink so that no more blood can flow through the unwanted vein. Within weeks, the unused vein is absorbed by the body & eventually becomes barely noticeable or invisible. Following injection the leg is placed in a gradient compression stocking which helps the lining of the collapsed vein stick together. As these stockings are quite hot to wear most patients have their treatments in the cooler months of the year. Patients are advised to walk following the procedure, which forces the blood to flow through other healthy blood vessels nearby. A vein may need to be injected more than once, depending on its size. In any one treatment session, a number of veins can be injected. Several sessions may be needed for any vein region, depending on the type and number of veins being treated.
