9 reasons to get a vasectomy over other contraceptions!

Benefits of a Vasectomy for Men:

  • Vasectomies are more effective.
    • Vasectomies are more effective than other contraceptive methods (99% effective!)
  • No need for general anesthesia.
    • A vasectomy does not require going under general anesthesia. The procedure instead, is most commonly done with simple local anesthesia. Because a vasectomy does not require anesthesia, the entire process takes Dr Lingathas only about 15 minutes to complete. There is NO general anaesthesia costs and not in hospital stay costs which can get quite pricey.
  • Lower cost than all other forms of birth control.
    • The average cost of a vasectomy is thousands of dollars cheaper than the methods of sterilization for women. In comparison, a vasectomy costs as little as under $990 at Woodville Rd Medical and Dental centre.
  • It is a one-time cost.
    • It is also worth noting that the cost of a vasectomy is just a one-time expense. With other forms of birth control, such as the pill or condoms, the price may be initially cheaper but obviously accrues with each purchase, making years of using condoms or oral contraceptives more expensive in the long run.
  • The procedure is often covered by insurance.
    • A vasectomy is covered by most insurance providers, meaning that the procedure will cost significantly less once you have met your deductible.
  • Does not affect sexual pleasure.
    • For several days directly following the procedure, men may experience some discomfort, however, from that point on a man’s orgasm will be no different than before the vasectomy. Medical professionals say the procedure will not weaken duration or intensity; sensitivity in the penis should not diminish or be affected.
  • It is a fast procedure and recovery.
    • For recovery, only 48 hours or less are required away from work.
  • The procedure is done in the doctor’s office rather than an operating room.
    • A contributing factor to the shorter procedure time and lower cost for vasectomies is the fact that the procedure can often be done in the office rather than an operating room. This signifies the simplicity of the procedure, as well as helps many feel more comfortable.
  • No scalpel vasectomies are available.
    • To even further simplify and improve recovery time, doctors have discovered a no-scalpel version of the vasectomy. This option is less invasive and has even fewer risks associated with it.

Benefits of a Vasectomy for Women:

  • Stopping hormonal birth control.
    • Every woman is different in how they react to various types of birth control, but a common side effect for many is exaggerated mood changes due to hormones. A woman is better able to regulate her mood and feel like herself when those additional hormones are not a factor. It also allows women to no longer worry about trying to remember to take a daily pill.
  • Avoiding more invasive tubal ligation.
    • As previously discussed, the procedure, recovery time, and risk factors are all much greater for tubal ligation in comparison to a vasectomy. Tubal ligation requires a visit to the hospital, an hour or longer procedure in the operating room under general anesthesia, and a potential overnight stay for monitoring. The pain throughout the four to seven-day recovery may be more significant, and although the risk is still relatively low, there is no risk to vital organs with a vasectomy.
  • Prevent failure of female sterilization, which may result in ectopic pregnancy.
    • The risks associated with pregnancy in women who have undergone tubal ligation include an uncommon occurrence of an ectopic pregnancy which may present a severe health risk to the women and an unsuccessful, painful pregnancy.

The decision to get a vasectomy as a permanent form of birth control is of course a very personal one. The best option for each person is dependent on the individual’s situation and consultation with a doctor; however, there are many benefits as detailed above to be considered for getting a vasectomy.

What to expect!

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that involves cutting the supply of sperm. It is a birth control method that is performed on a male. During this procedure, the sperm tubes are severed and the sperm can no longer make their way into the semen. Even though ejaculation will still occur during sex, there is no sperm to fertilize the female's egg, and no pregnancy can result from the sex if no sperm is present.

Initial consult:

If you are interested in undergoing the operation, you will first need a referral from a GP. Our GP's will take time to explain the entire process so that you can make an informed decision.

When you are ready, you can book your surgery with Doctor Paramalingam Lingathas.

The Vasectomy surgery:

The surgery is a relatively painless and very quick procedure.

In a conventional vasectomy, a local anesthetic agent is applied to the scrotum. The surgeon makes small cuts on the skin to access the tube that carries the sperm. The tubes are cut and little sections are removed before the tube ends are closed. Closing the tube ends is done via heat sealing or tying.

Post-Vasectomy Seminal test:

To confirm a successful vasectomy, the surgeon will collect and test the patient's semen sample, 12 weeks after the surgery is carried out. If the semen sample is confirmed to be free of sperm, then the vasectomy operation is confirmed successfully. Otherwise, more series of tests and contraceptives will be given to the patient until the semen is confirmed to be free of sperm.

After the operation

Mild discomfort will be experienced by the patient after the vasectomy operation. Some pain, bruising, or swelling can be expected, however, these will pass in a few days. For quick and complete recovery, specific instructions will be provided by your physician. Rest is encouraged for about 24 hours after vasectomy, while activities are limited for about two to three days after. The use of contraceptives is strongly advised for the first ten ejaculations or a minimum of two to three months after the vasectomy.

Surgical Circumcision In Merrylands

Doctor-Paramalingam-Lingathas-Surgeon

The most common and oldest surgical procedure is circumcision. New-born males come to the earth with a piece of skin covering the penis' head, known as the foreskin. Circumcision is then performed to remove this piece of skin. Various justifications exist for this practice, including cultural, religious, medical, and social purposes.

The time for performing circumcision varies as healthy infants can undergo the procedure 2 to 3 days after birth. Some others perform circumcision when they become much older. That is, as grown-up children or as adults.

What is circumcision?

Circumcision is the surgical procedure through which the foreskin of the penis is removed. Cutting off this shroud of skin results in the exposure of the penis. Circumcision is thus believed to enable males to keep the area around the penis clean.

A larger percentage of circumcision is performed for newborns shortly after birth. Many have it later in life, while some never undergo the procedure. Most importantly, clinics like ours only offer circumcision for people above the age of 8.

The Process of Surgical Circumcision

Initial consult

Before circumcision, consulting one of our Merryland GPs is necessary before seeing our surgeon, Doctor Paramalingam Lingathas. Our doctors will take the time to give a clear explanation of the benefits and risks of circumcision.

In some cases, you might have to wait for some time, before undergoing the circumcision. Such situations might be in cases of a premature baby, or a baby with a family history of bleeding problems, or a baby born with any problem relating to genital organ disorders. During this waiting period, written consent is required. Also, it is important to mention that the initial consult and the surgery can be done within a week.

Surgical Circumcision

Circumcision for newborns, older children, and adults follows the same procedure. For children, the child will be awake during the procedure and will be placed on their back with their legs and arms in a restrained position.

Then, an antiseptic will be used to clean up the penis, and a local anesthetic agent applied or injected into its base. A plastic ring will be attached to the penis head, after which the foreskin will be removed. After a while, the ring will fall off, and an ointment will be applied to the penis before it is wrapped in gauze. It takes about 10 minutes for a baby, while for an adult, it might take up to 30 minutes. Mobility is not affected as the patient can walk about after the surgery.

Recovery

Following surgery, some discomfort occurs normally. For adults, you will be able to walk out of the clinic right away, though you will be in recovery for 3-4 days.  Urination will be normal, with no discomfort.

Kids Dental Braces in Merrylands

Kid's Dental Braces in Merrylands

Kids dental braces Merrylands

If you are looking for a dental expert in Kid's Dental Braces in Merrylands, look no further! Many children can be quite-self conscious about requiring braces, however at our Merrylands Dental Clinic, we know know that the long-term benefits are well worth the discomfort. Children deserve a perfect smile allowing them to be carefree and full of life.

Crooked teeth can result in significant impacts on a child's dental hygiene, breathing, and sleep habits. While our dentists will always encourage any preventative methods while they are still an option, braces can also in turn prevent the need for more serious treatments down the line. Having untreated crooked teeth is quite unfortunate, as it leads to many other issues. One of the main issues is psychological low self-esteem, which impacts a child throughout their life. When a child has crooked teeth, they are less likely to smile and more likely to be awkward and hesitant about social interactions. This has long-standing impacts and negatively changes the way a child grows up.

If you are a parent that is concerned about their child developing a straight and healthy smile come and visit the Woodville Road Medical and Dental Clinic. We want all children to have beautiful vibrant smiles that bring a smile to everyone who sees it. Our clinic uses white brackets and white archwires to hide the braces, making them virtually invisible when required. Say goodbye to braces that stand out and create an eyesore. Our new SmileFast technology makes a slim profile to the braces keeping them hidden.

Costs of Kid's Dental Braces in Merrylands

Kid's Dental Braces in Merrylands typically costs from $6500- $16000, depending on which dentist you go to. For our community, especially for kids, we want everyone to be able to smile and enjoy life. As such our experienced dentists and experts have priced our treatments at the lower end of this scale, and are happy to price match other clinics to provide a competitive price. Our treatment times range from 6 months to 1 year, but this varies from patient to patient.

We understand Price can be a large determinant when choosing where to do the treatment. We aim to assist with this issue, by providing payment plans (ZipPay), to reduce the burden of braces. Just to make things more convenient our Dentists are available till 8 PM from Monday-Friday, so you don't have to skip work!

When should my Kid's get Dental Braces?

For Kid's Dental Braces in Merrylands, treatments typically start with an initial consultation. We determine if your child needs braces, and what age they should start. Some children have a few years to go whereas other kids are late to start treatment. Typically children who need braces usually start at about 9-12 years of age, which is about the pubertal spurt. Keep in mind, it is better to have the initial consultation before 8 years of age, in order to allow the dentist to start planing a child's braces journey. Early planning may even reduce the costs of the overall treatment and also reduce the treatment times. If you are unsure if your child is needing braces, or too young/old for braces, come in for a consultation with our Dentists, who will be able to give insight into when the best time to start with braces is.

How do I get the process Started for Kid's Dental Braces in Merrylands?

When seeing Kid's for Dental Braces, we typically like to make the first appointment relaxing and easy-going. We usually ask the parents what their main concerns are, and if the child also has the same concerns. We always take photos and do a full exam to make sure your child does not have any decay going on, before proceeding to plan for the braces. Typically if a child needs more time before determining if they need braces, then we will usually set this up and ensure that they are called back at the appropriate time. To get started with the process today, Click "Book Now" to see Dr Youstina our expert when it comes to Kid's braces!

How long do Kid's Dental Braces keep teeth straight for?

Kid's Dental Braces can and should keep teeth straight so long as a child wears a retainer. At Woodville Rd Medical and Dental, we use permanent retainers to ensure your teeth NEVER go crooked again. These retainers help to hold teeth in position and are not able to be seen. We know our work is of the highest quality which is why we give a guarantee on the work we do! We don't like to take shortcuts, which is why we do not use a temporary retainer (the plastic tray that goes in and out of your mouth). Not only are temporary retainers costly, but they are also largely ineffective. We pride ourselves on doing long-lasting permanent retainers, which can keep teeth perfectly straight for up 40-50 years.
